The Majority Of You Will Choose To Be Mediocre
Ouch. Yeah, I know. Sounds kinda harsh, huh?
It’s the truth, though.
By definition:
me·di·o·cre
/ˌmēdēˈōkər/
adjective
of only moderate quality; not very good
By contrast:
great
/ɡrāt/
of an extent, amount, or intensity considerably above the normal or average
The very definition of great means one who is above normal…that is NOT normal. One who is in the MINORITY.
Yet, most people focus too much on what the MAJORITY is doing.
Stop doing what the MAJORITY is doing because the MAJORITY is never going to achieve greatness.
By definition, it is impossible to achieve greatness AND be in the majority at the same time.
Read that again.
If you really want to achieve greatness as a LEADER, ENTREPRENEUR, BUSINESS PERSON, EXECUTIVE, etc. you will be in the MINORITY.
Do you have the courage to be in the minority?
Do you have the courage to go left when everybody else goes right? (Or go right when everybody else go left? Not being political here.)
Do you have the thick skin to explain to friends and family over and over again what you do because the majority of them won’t really get it?
It goes back to having the courage to be weird.
Have the courage to embrace how you think, feel, and act in the MINORITY and scream it from the mountaintops.
And make no mistake that it is a CHOICE between going with the MAJORITY or MINORITY.
Look at the lyrics from the song “Minority” by punk band, Green Day (one of my favorite bands btw, who knew?).
My favorite lines in bold.
I want to be the minority
I don’t need your authority
Down with the moral majority
‘Cause I want to be the minority
I pledge allegiance to the underworld
One nation under dog
There of which I stand alone
A face in the crowd
Unsung, against the mold
Without a doubt
Singled out
The only way I know
‘Cause I want to be the minority
I don’t need your authority
Down with the moral majority
‘Cause I want to be the minority
Stepped out of the line
Like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time
To my own beat now
The only way I know
One light, one mind
Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts
“For crying out loud” she screamed unto me
A free for all
F*ck ’em all
You’re on your own side

Why do most people choose the majority thus, also choosing mediocrity?
Simple.
People choose mediocrity because it is easier.
It is easier to follow the well-worn path that the majority has paved rather than carving your own path where nobody has stepped before.
It is easier to live in the certainty of mediocrity than the uncertainty of greatness.
Please join me in the minority.
Think about what you need to shift in yourself to choose to stand with the few instead of the many.
What qualities do those in the minority possess that you can improve?
Do YOU want to be in the minority?
Who do you need to be to fight for MINORITY RULES because MAJORITY FOOLS?
