How To Make “Uncertain” Times Less Uncertain

Everywhere you turn, the phrase “uncertain times” is popping up. From news headlines, to blog articles, to every email written in the last 3 months.

“I hope you’re doing well during these uncertain times…”

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m more certain now than I have been in a long time about many things.

I’m CERTAIN that I am anti-racist and stand up against racism in all its shapes and forms.

I’m CERTAIN that my role as a coach is important now more than ever as I help people stand for what they believe in and to fight to make their dreams come true.

I’m CERTAIN that I want to be bold, courageous, authentic, empathetic, fun, vulnerable, proactive, growth-minded and a lifelong learner.

I’m CERTAIN that I want to continue stretching my comfort zone in how I act, think, and feel.

The world is wildly spinning around us with the biggest civil and human rights movement in history happening during a global pandemic and economic crisis. While it’s true that these circumstances create an uncertain future, you get to decide with certainty who you want to be during these times.

So much is happening out of your control outside of you, but you get to control what is happening inside of you.

Slow down and take an honest look at yourself in the mirror. Look past your exterior and look inside.

Do you like what you see?

Are you being the best you can be during our country’s battle for equal rights for all?

Are you being who you want to be right now in how you create your business?

Are you being your best self in your physical, mental, and spiritual health?

Are you being the best possible leader right now in how you lead yourself, your loved ones, your community, your country, and your planet?

True story here: There was a psychology experiment done where a group of people were instructed to do nothing but sit there with their thoughts for 15 minutes. No phone, no task, no busy work. Just sit there and let their minds wander. If they sat there for the entire 15 minutes, they would get a cash prize. The only action they were allowed to do was push a button that would electronically shock them! If they pushed the button, they’d get shocked and also lose the cash prize.

So…the majority of the people PUSHED THE BUTTON! Yes, that’s right! People would rather shock themselves and lose a cash prize than sit alone with their thoughts for 15 minutes!

The point is that it’s HARD WORK to look inside yourself.

But when you do the work and slow down to truly look within, you can decide with CERTAINTY if you are being who you want to be.

And once you are certain who you want to be, then you can create actions that align with that being. It is this certainty that creates more confidence in how you want to move forward.

So, take the time to get CERTAIN on who you’re being and who you want to be, and then the world around you won’t seem so UNCERTAIN after all.
