It’s normal and effective in January to reflect on the past year and to envision what you want for the upcoming year in different areas of your life.
As a professional coach, it’s my job to mess with your thinking. It’s my duty to challenge you to think and act in different ways in order to discover more useful ways to learn, be, and behave…ways that are more in alignment with your dreams and goals.
So, instead of merely reflecting on the past year and thinking about what you want to change in 2019, let’s be honest with yourself about what WON’T change if you don’t.
Instead of imagining your “Created Future” of 2019, let’s dive a little deeper into your “Default Future”…it’s what your 2019 will look like if you DO NOT put effort into thinking and acting bigger and bolder than before.
Career and/or Business
What will your career and business look like if you don’t take any risks? How will staying exactly where you are right now feel on January 1st, 2020?
Finances
What will it look like if you don’t make any proactive measures to save for your future? How will you feel to put off taking an honest look at your finances once again? What will it be like to not take any bold actions to make more money?
Health & Wellness
What will it look like if you don’t take proactive measures to create better habits of health? If your body had a message for you for not taking care of it, what would it say?
Relationships
What will it be like if you didn’t have the courage to be more vulnerable with family and friends? How will the quality of your life be if you didn’t put the effort to meet new people or deepen the relationships with those you care about?
Personal Growth
What’s the benefit to your life if you continue to think and behave in the exact same ways that you always have? What opportunities have you missed for staying in your comfort zone? What will it feel like to be another year older, but not another year wiser?
Now that you’ve taken a deeper look into your “Default Future”, hopefully it inspires you to take a little more action toward creating your “Created Future”.
One of the best gifts that we have as humans is the ability to slowly close the gap between our “Default Future” and our “Created Future”. As Abe Lincoln is known for saying, “The best way to predict your future is to create it.”
