what is professional coaching?
The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. I like to take the idea of “potential” even further. Instead of “maximizing” your potential, which indicates a limit, I want us to discover your unlimited potential. I am credentialed by the ICF.
Unlike counseling or therapy that focuses on the past, coaching looks toward the future and focuses on being proactive toward where you want to go.
I like to remember that the word “coach” comes from the British use of the word “bus”. Like a bus, a coach literally gets you to where you want to go.
why does it work?
Coaching works because it helps people take ownership of their own success and empowers them with the tools to control their own lives. The coaching process completely revolves around the client. Coaching allows the client to have a deeper self-awareness of his/her strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and goals. Trained professional coaches have the mindset that their clients already have everything inside him or herself to be successful. A coach helps his clients access the internal and external resources that have been there all along, but oftentimes the clients have trouble seeing it without the guidance of an outside perspective.
Coaching also works because it provides a safe space for the client to examine which of her thoughts, habits, and actions are useful toward achieving her goals, and which ones are not useful. Coaching allows clients the arena to shake up old habits and beliefs that aren’t working anymore. It allows clients to break free from patterns of thoughts and actions that no longer serve them and make achieving their goals harder to accomplish.
In short, coaching works because it helps clients identify what they want, why they want it, how they can achieve it, and who they need to be in order to get it.
how does it work?
The process starts by contacting me for more information about a setting up an initial coaching experience called a Discovery Session.
Sessions are typically held on the phone or on Zoom.
In-person sessions are available only in the West Los Angeles/Santa Monica, CA area.
The average frequency of meetings is usually 3 x 60-minute sessions a month by phone or in-person in Los Angeles.
